Polish Accordionists to visit us in March

THIS EDITION OF THE CLUB  NEWSLETTER IS BEING SENT OUT EARLY IN ORDER TO ANNOUNCE  EVENTS THAT ARE BEING FEATURED IN OUR COMMUNITY WITHIN THE NEXT TWO WEEKS.

 LAST MONTH’S MEETING IN REVIEW

Gene and Bernie Piotrowski gave us a very entertaining and pleasant performance at our last meeting.

One of our members stated that he “never heard the concertina played so well” and another member said that he “never thought that the instrument could sound as good as when Gene played it”.

Bernie, Gene’s wife and singing partner,    delighted our members  by singing several old time favorites and telling jokes in a manner that relaxed the audience and made them want to participate in the sing alongs.

“Concertina Millie” joined in half way through the progran and added a very special touch to entire event.    Concertina Millie is a true artist of the concertina.  She played and sang and made us all feel that the show could go on for hours.

Barry Christensen also joined in and shared his talents with the group by singing his all time favorite songs.

It was a very relaxing and fun program.

Our attendance was 63.

PREVIEW OF OUR NEXT MEETING

We are in for an excellent program at our next monthly meeting.

The Polish American Accordion Association (PAAA) from Chicago will arrive with two of their finest representatives.

Edward Smollen and Marek Lichota are the president and vice president of the PAAA.   These two gentlemen  were born in Poland.  They both  started their musical careers by attending the Krakow Secondary School of Music where they earned their degrees from this renowned institution. Both immigrated to the United States and settled in the Chicago area.

Edward plays the piano accordion.  He  started the PAAA and is very active in several accordion associations in this country.  He is married and has two children both of whom also play the accordion.

Marek plays the button accordion and is also active in accordion clubs in the USA.

Marek earned first place at the Accordion Teacher’s Guild contest in 2000 in the virtuoso category.

Both of these excellent musicians performed for our club three years ago and did an outstanding job in demonstrating a variety of musical styles.  They have been invited to many of the accordion clubs in Wisconsin, Illinois and Indiana to showcase their talents.

We are pleased that they have agreed to come and share their love for music with us for a repeat performance.

Please bring a friend and do come and experience this dynamic demonstration of accordion music.

See enclosed photos of Ed and Marek.

LEFT HAND TECHNIQUE

Em Conley has made arrangements for our club to obtain copies of a book that is sure to improve one’s  bass abilities.

The book  “Melodic Adventures in Bass Land” will be available to our members at our next meeting.  We are going to order enough copies for all who are interested.

If you would like a copy please sign the request form at the next meeting.  We will purchase these books and sell them at cost.

SPECIAL PROGRAM

The Weidner Center at the University of Wisconsin, Green Bay has arranged a special event featuring Stas Venglevski and John Simkus.

These two excellent musicians will perform at the Weidner Center on Feb. 22, 2003 from 7:30pm until 9:00pm in the Fort Howard Hall.  Tickets are $6 for adults and $3 for students.

Please make an effort to attend this special production of accordion music in a very delightful setting.

THANK YOU

Your continuous and generous donations of food items make our meetings special  and satisfying in many ways.

Thank you for your donations.

PLEASE HELP PROMOTE THE ACCORDION

Reg Thaldorf is still interested in presenting “The Accordion History” in schools.  This program involves no cost to  schools except time.

If you or anyone you know has an “in” with the music program in any of our elementary schools, please have them contact Reg at 336-7679 for particulars.

This is an excellent way to promote the accordion and to maintain interest in it for future generations.

VOLUNTEERS NEEDED FOR A COMMUNITY BAZZAR

Bay Park Square Shopping Center on Oneida street is hosting a Community Bazaar and is asking us to participate.

This event will run April 25 (Friday) from 10am to 9pm, and April 26 (Saturday) from 10am to 9pm.

It is a great opportunity to present our club to the public, educate visitors,  as well as demonstrate the accordion, perform, and hopefully attract new members.

Currently, we have the Saturday time slots taken by our members but we do have   the Friday 10am to 12 noon and 12 to 2pm times available.

Please consider signing up for a 2 hour time spot for this event.  More information and a sign up list  will be presented at our next meeting.

Call 920-336-2053 if you wish to participate.
